There are two types of cigar boxes: wood and everything else. Between 1800 and 1960 around 80% of all cigar boxes were made of wood. That amounts to somewhere around 8,000,000,000 (a reasonable estimate) wooden cigar boxes.
Another 2,000,000,000 cigar boxes were made of cardboard, tin, glass, plastic, tin foil, aluminum, pewter, brass, china, ceramics, silverplate and palm leaves.
This exhibit is not exhaustive, but a pictorial overview of shapes and materials you’re most likely to find. There are hundreds of other box types, shapes, and materials.
